How We Collect Data

In short: nutrition, calorie and allergen information on Menu Chains comes from each brand’s own official website, app data or nutrition guide for that country, and every page records the source and the date we checked it.

Our process

  • Open the brand’s official source for the specific country, such as its website, nutrition guide or official ordering data.
  • Record the menu items, sizes and nutrition exactly as published.
  • Where the official source is a PDF or a script-driven page, read it directly and check sample items against the official item pages.
  • Record the source URL and the date checked on the page.
  • If a brand does not publish an item or a value, we write “Not listed” instead of guessing.

Prices

Most brands do not publish prices on their menu pages, because prices vary by restaurant. We show a price only where a brand or a reliable source publishes it. Reported prices are labelled as reported, with the source and date, and everything else says “Not listed”.

Local conventions

  • United States: calories; prices usually shown before tax.
  • United Kingdom: kcal and the 14 major allergens; VAT can differ between eating in and taking away.
  • Canada: calories and sodium.
  • Australia: kJ shown alongside Cal.

Limits

Official guides can leave out limited-time, test or regional items, and brands can change recipes at any time. We list what the official source publishes at the date shown.

Last verified dates

We only change a page’s “Last verified” date when we have actually rechecked the data.
